Homepage not changing - running out of ideas

    I have 2 Networked machines both with XP Home

    After a recent upgrade to IE7 I noticed that I could not choose what I wanted my Homepage to be (Tools/Internet options etc) as it always reverts back to a page which is the Homepage for one of my own websites which I selected recently and now want to change

    I have uninstalled IE7 and am now using IE6 again but still no joy

    Have run Spybot which has not picked up anything

    I use Norton’s Internet Security 2006 and have reinstalled that just in case it was fouling something but still the same after a reinstall

    Norton’s does not give me any notification that the Homepage is trying to be changed

    Does anyone have any ideas how to get back to being able to choose the Homepage that I want?

    Hello Griff and welcome to the Board.

    Check a SpyBot setting:

    In Advanced Mode - setting is next to File > Tools > IE Tweaks > in Miscellaneaous Locks, make sure Lock IE against user changing the Home page is not checked.

    Thanks for that Charles, forgot to mention in my earlier post that I have already looked at that and it is unchecked

    Also, my second PC does not have Spybot installed, only Norton's and the same happens on that

    You can edit the Registry and manuallt paste in the new URL:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

    After Main only have a choice of Default Feeds or Feature Control

    Cracked it now and for anyone else who might experience the same, this was the problem

    Nortons Home Page protection is controlled here

    From main menu select Options Button then Nortons Antivirus from dropdown
    2 main control options are available to check

    Turn on Home Page porotection (recommended)

    Block all attempts to change my Home Page

    This had been checked presumably by some rogue program
    as it was not checked originally

    Works fine now
