    I have a unique problem with my Home Network. When I attempt to access the computers I get a message that says: "Network is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource ". Here are some specifics about my setup:

    My network was working before I had to reformat and reinstall XP on my second machine;
    Both machines are running XP Home;
    I have share activated on both machines;
    I have updated my firewall software to allow accessing;
    I am using a router;
    My workgroup shows the drive when I click on disconnect, so I know it's there;
    My drives are mapped
    I have separate folders that show in My Network Places;
    I can access the folder information when I open the files;
    I can't see the shared printer that I have installed. share is turned on;
    I have turned on all the XP services;
    I turned off XP's firewall protection program;
    and on and on.

    I have simply run out of things to check and do. I just can't access through the network when I click on the network name. I have seen the message before, but a simple restart of the computer solved the problem, but not this time. Does anyone have any thoughts.

    Thanks,
    Bob

    Log on to each computer with a username and NON-BLANK password.

    Since XP-home enables the Guest account by default at install time, that should pretty much do it for you.

    Network access via the Guest account does have limitations so if you get some access but not enough, you'll need to add the username/passwords for both PCs to the local users section on each of them and then place the user accounts into a group that has the access you want it to.

    Newt thanks for the info. Even using he Guest Account I get the same message. As I said earlier I can at least see the C drives on each machine by using the folder under My Network Places on each machine. The biggest problem I have now is being able to share the printer. No matter what I do I just can't see the printer from the second machine. Any suggestions on seeing and using the shared printer. I was using it before with no problem. This is all to weird.

    I was using it before with no problem

    Before what?

    And are both PCs logging on with the username and non-blank password?

    Which PC has the printer attached?

    I am back in business for now. I downloaded and install the driver on the PC that the printer wasn't attached too. I didn't need to do that the last time, whatever. I then tried something I had tried earlier with no success. I used the IP address and the printer name during the add printer setup. Guess what, it found the printer and also the driver and configured everything. The same as it did before, but all I did then was click print and everything just happened.

    I then went back to the problem I was having with not being able to see or access the network. I fixed this problem my simply restoring my system to a prior date.

    Thanks for the support with my problems. I should be all right for a couple of days. I just love ******** things up. Oh well, It keeps me busy and out of trouble.

    Later,
    Bob
