Home network of 3 computers ....

Tower running XP Pro hard wired to router - XP tower
Tower running Vista Business hard wired to router - Vista Tower
Laptop running XP Pro wireless connection to router - Laptop

No problem in accessing files on Vista Tower or Laptop from XP tower or files on Vista Tower from Laptop and vice versa, but no access from either the Vista tower or the Laptop to the XP Tower. The attached dialogue is shown and I have checked Permissions on the shared folder.

I have been running SP 3 on the XP Tower for ~3 weeks without issue, but removed it - no change, reinstalled - no change.

Event viewer has many instances of .....
Added IRPStackSize DWORD to the registry (set value of 15) on both XP Tower and Laptop to no avail .....

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/177078/

Although I have no idea when this problem arose as I rarely access the XP tower from the Laptop, rather move/copy from the XP Tower to the Laptop I made a System Restore back a couple of days with no effect on this problem.

    Any ideas, please?

    Are you using Symantec anti-virus?

    Hi Pete

Here is a simple and quick procedure that I use as a general laxative for the Network settings.

Similar to the procedure I gave Dave.

    On the XP machine.

    1. Note static settings if not DHCP, and set to DHCP.

    2. In device mgr un-install the NIC, reboot to let it reinstall. (I've seen damaged NIC drivers cause similar problems several times). Updated NIC drivers would be good!

    3. Reset TCP, Paste following to command prompt then reboot again:

    netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

    4. Paste all of the following to the command prompt:

    netsh interface ip delete arpcache
    ipconfig /flushdns
    ipconfig /release *
    ipconfig /renew *
    ipconfig /registerdns
    nbtstat -RR

    5. Remap share and test.

    6. Restore any Static settings if cleared as directed above to use DHCP.

    Mike

Try adding a larger value for IRPStackSize in XP, you can go to a max. of 50.

Fortunately I was able to complete mflynn's recommendations.

    No joy - same message.

There was originally no IRPStackSize entry in the Registry and I added one - see first post to no effect. The Restore wiped it out of course, but it is back in with a value of 30 and still no joy.

    Any further thoughts?

Try Arie's suggestion of 50. That's the maximum value you can use.

Set to 50 - problem remains.

I am changing this value on the main computer only - XP Tower is that correct ?

Very puzzled as to why the network previously worked OK without the IRPStackSize statement in the registry

I had the same problem when networked w98SE requested from XP-Dennis. The error message was issued from w98SE. I created IRPStackSize on w98SE, set to 50 ... problem cleared. This network worked without this requirement for at least 2 years. All I could figure out is more accesses were be granted to w98SE. It appeared when I started sharing a optical drive FROM XP - TO w98SE... but again that was a month or more later before this "Not enough server storage / memory " error showed up. It fixed it, I never looked backed.

    No joy, but thanks :)

I had already added an IRPStackSize = 15 line to the registry on the laptop - have now increased that to 50, but the problem remains.

    Microsoft recommends:

Only suggestion I have is to check the SP3 newsgroup & see if something similar has been reported.

The interesting point is that there was not an IRPStackSize entry in the Registry originally and this problem prompted me to add it as it seems to be the only solution posted on Google- I'll try removing it.

May also try a restore back to a point in time when I know I was able to use the network without problem.

I'm not an official SP3 beta tester and have been unable to find any MS newsgroups, not even at TechNet - at lot of other people are asking the same question (re newsgroups)

Yes, by default this setting does not exist in the registry.

OK, i checked, but didn't find any messages there. You'll need access to the betanews.microsoft.com news server - which you'd get from your Microsoft Connect account.

    Resolved

Took the plunge and restored back to the earliest Restore Point available - conveniently on the last day I know that the network was OK - normal service has been resumed.:)

Now the witch hunt begins to find the culprit :) Although I don't think that SP3 was to blame - problem remained after uninstalling it - I think I'll pass on it until the final version is released.

    Culprit Found

The culprit was My Lockbox headlined in the last issue of HelpWithWindows Newsletter

Reinstalled it after the System Recovery and immediately got the ''Not enough server storage is available to process ....' dialogue - uninstalled it and the problem went away.

Will probably send them some feedback on this as it is a useful piece of software.

Interesting. I had it installed on a VPC when testing it, but I don't think I tried opening any network shares.

I installed it to lock a folder on an Extenal drive - worked fine apart from the network problem. Will try on an internal drive and see if the problem returns.

Same problem on a folder on an internal drive - no real surprise. Have sent them feedback so be interesting to hear their response - if any.

    Out of curiosity ...
What is the location / access of the "Locked Folder" in reference to the "Network Share "??
    Possible choices.....
    A) Locked folder was included in the Share.
    B) Not in Share, but in same Partition.
    C) Not in Share or Partition, but is in the same HHD.
    D) NO Locked Folder on HDD, just have "Folder Lock" program installed.

    Dennis

The original scenario which gave rise to the problem was ....

Locked folder on external hard drive - not shared.

A second trial scenario was the default locked folder in My Documents which on this computer is located on another hard drive, all of which is shared.

A locked folder is installed by default with the program so your choice #4 is not feasible.
