    Hello
Anyone knows of a keyboard shortcut in MS Word for highlighting, instead of clicking on the tool bar?

Hold down the shift key and press the arrow key and you will highlight each letter as you arrow over it. This is true most places you'll find including this forum, notepad, etc.

Mouse - left-click and drag over as much text as you want to highlight.

These next two are for the version I use but my guess is the extend back over lots of earlier versions.

Hold down the ctrl & shift keys while tapping the arrow key to do a word at a time

    Press F8 - x 2 for a word, x 3 for a sentence, x 3 for a paragraph.

Check Help in Word for all these plus lots more and you'll be sure the shortcuts you find apply to your version..

    Newt,
What I meant was applying (colored) background highlight to selected text. For that you have to click on the tool bar icon for highlighting. I couldn't find anywhere in the Help menus how to get to this from the pulldown menus.
