This has been a problem with the first version of Vista and since upgrading to Windows 7 the problem remains. My computer goes into sleep mode just fine and pressing a keyboad key wakes it just fine except there is a high pitched squeal emitting from the CPU speaker. I have to reboot the computer to get it too stop and I cannot figure out why or where or what is causing the squeal. Could it be the hard drive? Can anyone give me an answer or tips or where or how to proceed to fix the problem?

Is this a laptop where using sleep mode is mildly important? If so, what is the make n model number?

No this is not a laptop computer. It is desktop computer which is an Acer, Aspire Model 5620. It purchased this computer new two years ago with Vista, an operating system I have hated since I got it.
