Is it possible to hide the "Programs" folder in the Start Menu. I would like to do it through the registry like you do to hide the Run command, help, search, etc.

I have set up my registry like this...

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "NoDriveTypeAutoRun "=dword:00000095
    "NoDesktop "=dword:00000001
    "NoRun "=dword:00000000
    "NoFind "=dword:00000001
    "NoSetFolders "=dword:00000001
    "NoSetTaskbar "=dword:00000001
    "NoSMHelp "=dword:00000001
    "NoSMDocs "=dword:00000001
    "NoRecentDocsMenu "=dword:00000001
    "NoCommonGroups "=dword:00000000

All of the Icons are gone except for the "Programs" icon and I have not been able to locate any information regarding it.

In case anyone is interested, read up on how you can modify the look of your Windows...

    Thanks

Thanks for the reply...no luck though. That guide even says that it doesn't apply to Win2k.

    Another note...
We have an item in the startup folder that must be started when windows starts. Is there another way to launch this program on startup without having a shortcut in the start up folder? If true we could then start the program that way and deny access the programs and startup folders in the start menu.

We are essentially trying to restrict all access windows, save for the running programs.

I found 1 answer to my own question...

To launch programs on startup without creating shortcuts in the Start Menu add this Key to the registry if it doesn't exist

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

Then add new String values for each program that need to run on Startup. The values should be the absolute path to the programs .exe, or a .bat file.

Disclaimer: Modifying the registry can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. I cannot guarantee that problems resulting from modifications to the registry can be solved. Use the information provided at your own risk.
(everywhere I look I see this disclaimer so I thought I'd put it in as well)
    :)
