I have a number of logical drives (18) some of which are backup drives which I would like to hide in Windows Explorer.

This was straightforward in XP either directly through the Registry or using Tweak UI.

I have been unable to find a means of doing this in Pro x64 - the Hide empty drives is not an option as the drives contain data.

Anybody found a solution to this?

Most say if it works in Vista, should work in W7.
Below link says it works for x64 ... also has ability to hide multiple drives.
Hide Drives from Your Computer in Windows Vista

Above link and many more possibles came via this Bing search ..
    hide drive vista x64

    Good luck!!

    Additional link
The following provides 2x methods - The latter via Reg edits includes some preconfigured downloads ...

How to Hide or Unhide a Drive in Vista

Might want to backup the the registry before you let loose on them. :D

Dennis - thanks - I'll certainly look into that. My searches were for Win 7 which would normally throw up Vista refs.
That I do on a daily basis & have done so for many years :)

The first URL outlines the method I used in XP by modifying the Registry, but I have seen reference elsewhere that it only worked in XP, maybe the article in question preceeded Vista,

I shall investigate that further in the knowledge that I have not only Registry backups, but also current disk images.

Interestingly the Group Policy Editor only caters for drives up to D:\ - however the same Registry tweak for XP & Vista works just fine in 7.

    Thanks again, Dennis :)

Glad it worked for you. Managing 18x drives would be a handful.
It's interesting as Microsoft exhorts the world to move to the latest, greatest, new and improved OS .... but reassuring to ourselves one of it's core components (registry) goes back to XP lineage. Evolution can not move forward without keeping the best of the past.

You're right - and the other thing that has been a pleasant surprise, having passed on Vista, is that my very old software - Lotus Organiser, Corel Word Perfect 8 (used for labels) runs fine on 7. Just a couple of apps which won't - Quicken 2000 and a CD label printing app, but they both run fine in XP Mode.

    O'all I am very chuffed with Windows 7 :)
