Do you have a static IP address? In not then why do you want to hide it? All it can tell anyone is who your ISP is. You’d be better off making sure your firewall is secure.
Does this service use Open Proxy Servers?

It's just another proxy server system (imho not worth the fees):
    http://www.hide-my-ip.com/faq.shtml

Hide My IP is not hiding my IP address. Why does it not work and what can I do?
If you are using FireFox, navigate in FireFox to: http://www.hide-my-ip.com/hideip.xpi and follow the instructions to install the extension. If you get a dialog asking you what program to open the extension with, select "Other" then select "FireFox.exe" in your "Program Files\Mozilla Firefox" folder.

Also, be sure a proxy is set in your browser. In Internet Explorer, go to your LAN settings Window (Tools, Internet Options, Connections, LAN Settings) If you use FireFox, the (Tools, Options, "Connection Settings ") window. When Hide My IP is running, you must see an IP address in your LAN or Connection Settings. If you do not, then it is likely that a third-party program such as a virus scanner or firewall is interfering with Hide My IP.

It worked for me on the free trial. Works very fast, secures your IP, and your always anonymous.

Just hiding your IP does not make you anonymous - not even close. As I said, the IP tells them nothing anyway. It’s the information your computer sends out that matters.

It would be like making a phone call where you were sure that on one could get your number and could not trace the call. You would be anonymous as long as you didn’t say anything to give yourself away. However, if you actually spoke your name and address, then what’s the point of hiding your phone number?
