I've got a very strange problem, half the contents of a users home directory appears
to of dissapeared ( Every file and folder starting with the letter "I" onwards),
you can't see them in Windows Explorer, or from a DOS box. I've confirmed that explorer's
folder options are set to show all files, and I've removed the tick box from hide
    system files.
These "missing" files are still in the directory because when we try to copy the
restored files back it reports that files already exist. Also, If you do a search
or DIR *.* in the folder, it only returns the files you can see, but if i do a dir
p*.* (or any other letter that is missing) it returns a load of files that should
be there. I've checked the attrib for the files, and they are not set as hidden/system.
This is happening on a Windows 2000 server SP3, and the Users home Directory is stored
    on a SAN.

Thanks in advance for any help.

SAN may be a clue here - is the array controller in the SAn short on memory (cache) ?

Could be that its not building the file lists correctly when interrogated

Is the server only singly attached to the SAN or is it dual ? If dual are you running software to manage the connections ?

Or it could have nothing whatsoever to do with the SAN

    I love IT
