First of all thank you to whoever is reading this and is helping people out with their xp problems, i appreciate it. this is really a very nice site.

    This is my problem.

My windows XP broke down so basically someone came and reinstalled XP. it works, but everything is very, sorry let me try that again, very choppy and slow. when i click on the the blue bar on the top of a page/window/square thing to move it, it kind of just jumps with my mouse like it is refreshing very slow, and it is not smooth, can you picture what im saying? it is like it is very slow or something. The same thing happens when i scroll using the bars at the right hand side of every window, it moves slow and choppy and it goes through the page in blocks, not smooth and accurate, you know? i hope someout there knows what im trying to say. it feels like the computer is slow and kind of has a hard time when i click on to different windows or scrollers to keep up with my mouse.

If anyone is familiar with this and can help me make my computer (a Dell8200, its new and everything) fast and smooth, i would appreciate it. Again, thanks for reading this post.

Did you do your windows updates after you reinstalled? Do you have a nivida video card? Mine does the same thing, it is like your mouse is jumping down the page. Just go do your updates at microsoft and there will be a driver update for nivida. If you have a nivida video card.

If you didnt do any of the updates yet make sure you do the critical updates while you are there also. :D

At the top of your page go to tools, then windows updates, it will ask you to download something if you have never done it before (if I am remembering correctly) say yes and then you want to scan for updates. It will tell you all of the critical ones to download but the drivers will be listed on the right hand side.

I am not one of the pros here, but it sounds like something my computer does each time I have to reinstall. HTH :D

See if the chipset drivers were installed it should be .C:\dell\drivers there are readme.txt in all the folders.
Also go to http://support.dell.com/support/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs and enter your information look for All.
You didn't mention if it is an Inspiron or Dimension. I have the Inspiron 8200.
