    Hello,

I just found this site. Looks like there are some sharp Windows people here, such as Arie. I've been working on this problem since July, with no luck. I have a handful hi-def video files in ISO format that I used to be able to play with PowerDVD. Now most of the files will play for 20 minutes and the screen will turn blank and the system reboots. I also have various problems when playing Blu-ray discs.

Regular video files and DVDs seem to still work fine, but I used to be able to play the hi-def files with no problems. The files are about 20gb each and one seems to play for a long time without crashing, while others only play for 15-20 minutes.

My hardware includes a Supermicro C2SEA board (ATX with a g45 chip and hdmi), 4gb of single channel DDR3 1333 memory, 1tb Samsung F3 hd and an Intel e6300 2.8g dual core chip.

Among the things I've tried that haven't worked include, updating the drivers, reinstalling PowerDVD, a virus scan, uninstalling unnecessary programs and testing the memory.

I had another, similar problem with crashes that resulted in a blue screen, followed by reboot and I don't know whether it has any relation to this. These crashes would occur when playing regular video files or even music files in Foobar. I uninstalled a lot of programs that I wasn't using and the problem seemed to go away. However, the debug results from the crash dump file are below.

I really appreciate any suggestions you can offer that will help diagnose and correct these problems.

    Thank you,

    Darin

    Welcome to BBS,

A lot of members have viewed your problem but no solutions have been posted, not sure why.

The first operation I can suggest is to run chkdsk which will scan your hard drive for any errors or corrupt files.

You could also follow this instruction which will allow you to take note of any future BSOD error messages.

Hmmm, I missed this one, sorry.

volsnap.sys (Volume Shadow Copy Driver) is a Microsoft driver, although there's a good chance the real trouble is caused by another driver.

Check for errors in the Event Viewer. Under Windows Logs, check System and Application logs.

    Problem Resolved

Hello everyone, it took a while until I had time to work on this, so sorry for the delay in responding.

The issue appears to have been with the Virtual Memory. The problem arose around the time when I turned off the paging file. I did try going back to reset it after the crashes started, but for some reason I didn't pick that up as the issue.

Now I have the OS hard drive and the external hard drive (with the movie files) set with System Managed paging file. I've logged several hours of watching without another crash.

    Cheers
