Just put together a system for a friend. Whenever he plays music and/or mp3 cds on his 50x CD drive it skips, jumps and just sounds awful. If he plays them on his burner they sound fine. Also, anything played from the hard drive is ok, as well. The Cd drive came out of his old system and worked fine, there.

    Jetway MB
    PII 333mhz
    128mb mem
10gb WD hard drive (primary master)
    HP 4x burner (secondary master)
    Actima 50x CD (secondary slave)
    TnT2 16mb agp video
    Ess sound card (generic)
    Windows ME

I suspect two areas, sound card or config.

Looking forward to your help. Welcome back BBS

Just for fun, have you tried to set the cd-rom as master, and the writer as slave? Also, it could need a cleaning. Taking it out of the old machine could have dislodged some dirt or debris.
