    Hello everyone,

I'm a beginner in this kind of forum, and you could say i don't have a good understanding of computers.

So please bear that in mind, and forgive me in advance if i seem naïve and have difficulty understanding your responses.

I have a major problem with my computer. I've picked up a very agressive spyware, and i can't get rid of it. It seems i'm not the first for i have read that some people on this site have already posted similar message for this problem. I've read them, and i must say i'm writing this because i did not understand the responses and solutions people gave. I'm very, very ignorant in computers : my passion is books, printed books. No chance of being infected by them.

Anyway, the main caracteristic of the spyware i caught is that it always changes de starting page of my browser (Internet explorer). No mather what i did, i can't undo the damage. I've run Northern Anti-virus, Spybot, Ad-aware, etc. It didn't work. I found a program that could apparently undo the problem, but i had to pay 39$ to get the full version... and i won't, since some of the members of this forum apparently found a way to undo the damage.

Could someone be gentle enough to explain to me, step by step, with a lot of precision since i'm so dumb with computers, how to get rid of this spyware?

    Thanks in advance

    Use Browser Help Demon.

Go to www.google.com and search for "BHO Demon "

Download it to a easy to remember spot, like your desktop.

Double click it and get through the installation wizard.

When the little box comes up, type the home page you want in the box.

That should change it back but the hijack is still there. Do you have HijackThis? If you don't, download it, install it and run a check

BUT WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T FIX ANYTHING YOU SEE ON THE SCREEN

Post the logfile here and we'll tell you which entries are the hijack. :)

Jean Saccard, the below link has the instructions you are looking for. When done with Spybot and Ad-Aware (both are free and work very good), start a new thread under Removing Spyware & Viruses with your HijackThis log.
