    shared system files

I'd like to be able to see system files across my network (going up & down 3 flights is a drag), but XP does not allow it. Is there a way around this?

All computers that want to share resources work better if they have the same workgroup name.

Then, you can right click on the folder you want to share and select Sharing and Security to share out a folder.

But, the easiest way is the open control panel, select Network Connections, Then in the left pane select "Setup a home or small office network ".
Run through the wizzard and it will generate a floppy disk to put in the other machines to make them all talk to each other. Works pretty slick.

Problem with sharing folders/drive in LAN

Hi, I have a home lan with 3 computers. I was having problem with sharing folders/drives in the network. I am using windows xp home edition. And for each drive/folder that I want to share, I already check the box of share this folder on the network/ allow network users to change my files; however, nothing seem to be working?

Anyone have any ideas of how to fix this problem? btw, the internet sharing works fine.

    Any help is appreciated.

Combined these 2 threads because they were basically identical.

What exactly is not working? If Internet Connection Sharing is working, you do not have any physical connection issues. Therefore, the problem must be in your settings or approach.

Do all of the PCs have the same workgroup name and different computer names? What are you doing to try to access shared folders? What error messages, if any, are you getting?

Yeah I think the physical connection is fine. They all have the same workgroup and different computer name. I got an error message saying that "Skynet is not accessible, you might not have permission to use this network resources..... "

I think that happened after I installed the new service pack for Windows XP because before the sharing folder/driver function work fine. But now even I check the box of sharing the folders, it is not accessible from other computer.

You should have duplicate accounts on the three PCs. Same name, same password, and not a blank one.

Thanks for the reply NetDoc. Is it a must to have a duplicate accounts? because I remember before I use a blank one for all my computers and it worked fine.

Sorry superjs88, this post belong on a different thread.
On my NetGear WGT624 router for the following situation / WAN setup ...
Respond To Ping On Internet Port
If you want the Router to respond to a 'Ping' from the Internet, click this check box. This can be used as a diagnostic tool. Again, like the DMZ server, this can be a security problem. You shouldn't check this box unless you have a specific reason to do so.

    Sorry for the confusion. :(
