    I have a PC that was a 3 OS machine 95, 98se, and XP pro all on the same HD. This was done via boot magic. I removed the boot magic menu. Now I only have the Windows dual boot menu.

    [boot loader]
    timeout=10
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS= "Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
    C:\= "Microsoft Windows 98 SE "

    C drive is a primary (98).
    D drive is logical (XP).

    I would like to get rid of the 98. I do not want to re-install all my XP apps over again.

    also current HD is 20gb and I have a new 120gb.

    Any ideas how to solve this?

    I'm assuming here that you have all the apps running in XP.

    With your present setup, all you need to do are two things and 98 will be gone from the drive and from your boot options.

    - delete the c:\windows folder
    - remove the last line from the boot.ini file.

    As to the new drive, you haven't said what you have in mind.

    I have all of the apps installed in XP on the drive D (logical drive).

    As a test could I?:
    - rename the c:\windows folder to c:\del-windows
    - copy the boot.ini file to dual-boot.ini
    - remove the last line from the boot.ini file.

    The existing 20gb drive I want to eventually use only for XP.
    The new drive I want to use for for future Apps and files (photos, music, ...).

    But I still want to use the system as I migrate the apps and file to the new drive.

    Your idea for the test is a good one and should certainly work for you.

    One caution for later. XP expects to see a certain few files (including boot.ini) on C:\ regardless of what partition or drive it is loaded on. There are ways you can repoint things but you won't be able to simply get rid of C:\ and have XP still able to reboot nor can you just place the startup files on D:\ along with XP and have it boot up.

    Note that the needed files are all in the root of C: so you can, if you want, get rid of any other folders on there.
