Hi, I have a small business LAN consisting of 4 computers, 2 with XP and 2 with 98. I want to be able to access this LAN and our reservation system's database. I need to add 2 more systems on our outpost in different locations. The problem is that the 2 systems I want to add is too far for wireless or to run cable. I need to be able to dial in to the LAN occasionally and update the reservation systems's database. What is the best way to do this? Ive been told it can be done with RAS. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks
    Jeff

Certainly can be done via RAS (or it's slightly more secure and more complicated cousin RRAS).

Lots of specific how-to details by going to Microsoft Online Support ~ advanced and checking all products, 50 articles, using all words and search for how to install ras. Take a look at the VPN article to see if you like that option better but also at specifics on setting up RAS (remote access service) or RRAS (routing and remote access service).

Briefly, you'll need a server that has RAS manager installed and one or more modems connected to it (number of modems dependent on how many simultaneous connections you need).

Thanks for the info Newt! I have ran into a problem though. Once I finally was able to login my W98 Client to my XP Ras Server that is connected to the LAN, I was not able to see any of the network connections in Network Neighborhood. Also I wasnt able to see or use any of the resources on the XP RAS server. The error I received said something about an incorrect Domain, but I checked all of the domains on the network. I believe it might have something to do with the way XP is configured....Any help would be very much appreciated!
    Thanks
    Jeff
