    Hi everyone,
Before I start i just thought i would mention that i have spent many hours trying to fix this problem and i only came to this forum as a last resort. As such I would be hugely grateful for any help you can give me.

    The situation:
I have previously dual booted my hard disk several times in order to try out different builds of linux etc. but I have always maintained a C: drive for windows. Recently I got feed up with my dual-booted OS (ubuntu linux as it happens) and so deleted the E: partition of my hdd and moved the unalocated space. I have always used norton partition magic without a problem to perform these tasks.

However recently i decided that i would take 10 gb out of C: drive and leave it as unallocated space (I wanted to do this for a reason - too complex too explain). However norton partition magic gave me an error 1529 which reads "Information mismatch in directory entry ". I looked at the support on symnactics website and they said to run chkdsk /f. I did this and windows told me it could not get a lock on the drive so i selected the option to perform the scan at next reboot and then rebooted the computer. When the computer rebooted norton partition magic still wouldn't work.

I then ran chkdsk in read-only mode and it did find problems. I also tried it on next reboot but it failed to fix the problem once again. I have also tried norton disk doctor and this also finds a problem but it again says you need to restart to fix the problem. When you restart it only seems to run a standard chkdsk scan (?).

I also tried to run a disk defrag to see if that would help and the only thing that came out of it is that it failed to defragment \~pttest.dat. I don't know if thats relevent or not.

Thanks in advance for any help,
    Fighter1405

P.S. I'd be happy to answer any qs about my comp setup

just one more thing to add. I have now tried using BartsPE and running chkdsk from there. I can run chkdsk C: /f without having to reboot but it finds no problems. However partitioning still doesn't work

Which OS are you running, Vista, XP, 98?
PM 8.0 is not Vista compatible.
