Help with my HJT log

Since my Norton subscription was expired, I decided to go with AVG for my AV software. I had no problems with Norton's, but the programs seemed to be getting larger and larger. On top of that, I think it may have messed up my Win98 hard drive to the point of replacement. Any ways....

I removed Norton's through the Add/Remove and used their NAV2003 program. I also downloaded and ran RegSeeker. I think it found about 1200 entries. I went line by line and removed all the related entries for Norton's. I don't know enough about the program to know which others to remove. I did create a backup of the registry before deleting anything.

I really don't have any major problems with this system. the only problem that I notice is that when I explore a drive, it takes a few seconds to expand any folders. My other XP is so much faster with this. Almost immediate when I expand a folder. The kids mainly use this system, so I am sure their is some wierd stuff on it. I have also ran Spyware Blaster, SpyBot Search & Destroy, and Ad-Aware and removed anything found. Here is my HJT log:

Thanks Pete. I'll fix the two items you listed. Any thoughts on why the explorer is running slow? I'm thinking I probably need more memory in that system. Maybe that would help.

Hi Mike,

Also search for files labeled Norton and Symantec if you haven't done so and then re run the reg cleaner.

How much RAM do you have?

Thanks. I'll do a search on those items also. I only have 256MB of RAM installed. Do you think it's just a RAM issue? If so, that is easy enough to fix.

Hi Mike,

I would go to 512 MB of RAM. Unlike 98, XP makes far better use of memory - no "System Resources" bottleneck.

I bought a 512MB stick last night. It should be here in about 3 days. That will give me the same RAM as my other XP system. Should be a good comparison. I'll let you know how it comes out. Thanks.

Just a quick update. The new RAM is installed and doing it's job. Things do seem faster in Explorer, and generally. I have removed additional registry entries for Norton, so hopefully, it is as removed as possible. Thanks for the help.
