    in response to your question

hello. some of these things may seem as a hassle but please do everything listed in the order listed.
if you would please, download and save to an easy access place, ewido security at http://www.ewido.net/en/
    dont install it yet.
make sure you open windows explorer and under tools > folder options > view tab > select "show hidden files and folders ". click on ok and close windows explorer.
now close all open browser windows and any running aplications that are not running at startup.
start up HiJack This and click on "scan "
place a check mark next to the following items:
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = res://shdoclc.dll/softAdmin.htm
    O15 - Trusted IP range: http://216.239.39.104
    O15 - Trusted Zone: http://auctions.yahoo.co.jp
upon first glance this would seem to be to your bank.
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = https://olb2.nationet.com/
however, the address pulls up a "Nationwide Builders something or other" its a locked site so if you dont recognize it, add it to the above list.
now click on "fix selected "
when finished, close hijack this and restart your computer.
Now install ewido. you will get an error message about data base not found. No Big Deal. next you will check for updates and make sure they are installed. then you will click on the scan button and kick back and let it do its thing. when it is finished, remove anything found and restart your computer.
now go to trend micro and run an online scan for virus' at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
now open AdAware SE and check for updates. new 1 available today. and then run another scan. remove anything it finds. do the same with spybot search and destroy.
now while spybot S&D is still open make sure you click on the "immunize" button. then close the application when it is finished.
    restart your computer again.
Now download, install, check for updates and enable all protection the following program:
    Spyware Blaster at http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/downloads.html
when you are finished close the program.
now if you dont already have it, download and install this program:
    CCleaner at http://www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload.asp
open it up after you install it and first click on "Analyze" then click on "run cleaner "
close the program and restart your computer.

please open HiJack This and run it, then post your new log and let us know what was found by which programs please.
    thank you.

***NOTE: research this item and figure out if you need it. it poses a potential risk and can be exploited by trojans, worms and virus'.
definitly best to not have it running if you dont need it. after the scans and removal process, it may no longer show in your hijack this log but you will still need to find out if you need it or not.

    Btw

BTW, this is only my opinion. you obviously have something according to your post and it needs to be found/removed.
these particular items (along with the ones already listed) throw flags to me after seeing your post:
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\ssv.dll
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\ssv.dll
it is common for hidden/masked trojans and worms to use other ligitamate items for thier dirty deeds.

Hello "mrsmith" and thank you for your replies.

The PC turned out to be "clean" and the fault was with the phone company, but this day and age you never be sure!

I've been trying to learn and analyze HJT logs, and I think I am pretty much getting there now, but it is good to hear any opinions.

Regards, and all the best for the Holidays!

    Andy.
