I tried to upgrade to v3.0.5. It seemed to install just fine, but after I rebooted and tried to start firefox, it said I needed to reboot to complete the installation. I did this several times but it does the same thing all over again. I tried to remove it using control panels add/remove program, but when I click on remove, it tells me I need to reboot to complete the upgrade. What do I need to do to fix this? I've noticed all my browsers have been acting funny. Things like opening news tabs or windows to random websites(that are not in my bookmarks), crashing suddenly with this error:

firefor.exe(or chrome.exe, or safari or internet explorer) Application error

The instruction at "0x003da4fe" refenced memory of "0x05f0a0f5a "
The memory could not be "read "
Click ok to terminate the program

How can I fix this problem?

The help forums at the firefox site have not been helpful.

Thank you for any help you might be able to give me.:)

    Allen

Given that several browsers have the same problem I'm inclined to suggest you have a malware issue.

My advice is to read this and post your results in the Malware and Virus removal board.

It would be helpful if you quote or link to this thread when you do so.

Did you do a Windows update, recently? This link mentions something about WU . Since you said that all browsers are acting, the issue must be with the OS.
The mention of WU is about half way down.

Would malware also cause firefox to not update properly?

    Malware could cause anything ;)

However, I'm inclined to believe (like Westside) it's an OS problem but I'm not convinced it has anything to do with windows update.

(EDIT: What I mean is a crucial OS file has been compromised)

You could always try to start firefox in safe mode...

    start->all programs->mozilla firefox->mozilla firefox (safemode)

and see if the problem still persists.

I did not read the replies too well. Although one of the fellows mentioned Windows Updates, what helped was this
So, using Safe Mode start for Firefox may help. But, I don't understand how a IE solution would help other browsers.

Since they (browsers and addons) use common protocols some of which are built into the OS a common fix (for malware) is possible.

I have tried to start firefox in safe mode, but it does the exact same thing. I have run RSIT and posted the txt files(long txt files) in the malware/virus removal board. And I linked it back to this thread. I suspect I have picked up the computer version of herpes...I also have had IE decide to open windows at random. But I'll let more knowledgeable people look at what I posted.
