    Hello to all!

I am in the process of acquiring a "new" computer with Win 7 to replace my soon-to-be defunct WinXP. While I am waiting for it's arrival, I was wondering if someone could advise me on how to save/transfer my files once it gets here.

I will want to transfer my photos, word documents and bookmarks/favorites to name a few. What will I need to accomplish this and what would be the simplest way for a computer illiterate such as myself?

Once I get this accomplished, I'm sure to be back with more questions! I was still in the learning process with WinXP! Now I feel like I'm gonna have to start all over with Win7! And I won't even begin to mention the frustrations I've had with my laptop that has Win8! But I seldom use that one and mostly just for some light reading and emails when traveling.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Most straight forward way is to copy your personal data files & folders to a flash drive, external drive or burn to CD/DVD and copy from there to the new computer.

For things like Favourites, etc. in IE go to File - Import & Export and follow the wizard through and export to the hard drive and copy as per other data files. On the new computer use the same command, but import.

Emails may be more problematic - you will need to post existing emailer (Outlook Express?) and the email you choose for Win 7 in which there is no default emailer..

Thanks PeteC for your reply. Sounds relatively simple enough to accomplish. I do have a question about after copying them, (either to a flash drive or burning them to cd/s) will I be able to put them in the same/similar folders on the new Win7? I haven't seen what the new OS actually looks like, so just trying to get a feel for what I might expect.

Windows Explorer in 7 is virtually the same as that in XP so you should have no difficulty in copying Folders/Files to wherever you want them.

Thanks PeteC, that is certainly encouraging to hear! Now I'm getting excited to get my new computer and start transferring my files! :D P.S. I do use outlook.com (alias hotmail?) for my email, so I'm glad that I won't have that portion of copying/transferring to worry about!
