When accessing the floppy drive, the machine locks up. I contrl/alt/delete, and I get a dialogue box telling me the "MPREXE IS NOT RESPONDING." What is the MPREXE and how do I fix the access problem? Thanks

    Microsoft says.......
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q178084&ID=KB;EN-US;Q178084

This looks like a slippery little thing to pin down. If the password issue doesn't pan out and after making sure this is not viral or trojan in nature, I'd concentrate on the "Conflicting Application Scenario ".

Possible A: floppy seek and virus program set to scan on floppy access.

Close all un-needed running applications or tasks and see if error is reproduced or taken care of. Reduce/cleanup/stop startups.

Clean the stopups and background runners you didn't even know you had. Are you familiar with spybot or adaware programs?

Links to these can be found Pinned up in the "security" forum.

    Hi Roddy,

I got your email and your most welcome but you did not specify how you fixed this problem.

Please, please share the fix. Others may need it in the future.

Besides, I'm curious what the problem was. Don't tear the last page out of this "Mystery Story "....:D
