Obviously you can somehow make it onto the net before the problem happens again (or your on another comp :p)

Norton has a virus scanner on their site, which will maybe help you at as far as that's concerned.

Hmmm... Actually... Maybe your having an overheating problem. If its worked before, and shuts off that quickly... Yeah, if its a newer computer, make sure that your heatsink and all that good stuff is done up properly (processor to motherboard, etc).
Good way to check up on stuff is while its starting up, do the ol' DEL key for your BIOS and check out the temperatures in there. if your running an athlon, especially an older one, the temp's are gonna be pretty high.

Let us know what kinda system your running and maybe give us some temp. numbers at start up.

Hopefully that helps, I dunno... i'm sure other people in the forum would be way more helpful.

Sam- welcome to the forum and sorry you are having troubles.

I think Big Blue is on the right track with hardware problems. Since you said it happened after the system had been powered off for an hour, heat isn't the most likely cuplrit here although it often is.

And whoever told you it was Blaster must have used Tarot Cards to come up with that one. For one thing, Blaster does cause reboots but only after the OS loads. For another, there simply isn't enough information here to say what the problem is unless there is stuff you didn't post.

In case it really is heat, try taking the cover off, blowing all the dust bunnies out, and running with no cover and a fan blowing on the PC for a while.

It could be that one or more of the 2K startup files is bad. Check for that (and fix it) by booting to the 2K CD, going into the recovery console, and running the fixboot command when you get to the C:> prompt.

If you can't get to the recovery console without the system booting itself again, hardware issue for sure. Power Supply possibly.

If you can get to the recovery console and fixboot doesn't help, you can try watching closely for the blue screen and tapping the pause/break key when it opens. That should stop things so you can write down whatever message you see. Post that here.

Lastly - bear in mind that folks check the forum from time to time but no one "lives here" and monitors new posts. You gotta allow more time between your post and an answer.

I had the same problem with a friend of mine... It was a virus...
He didn't have a cleaning diskette also (how come people never learn ?!? ), so clean install was his only solution.
It worked for him. I hope will work for you too.
