when trying to delete certain files/folders, i keep getting pop-up window saying access denied, file is in use. well, these files are not being used by any application and i am not able to delete them.

can anyone help me force the delete command on these files?

    thanks in advance.

Services will lock files open just like applications will. Same effect.

Which files/folders in particular are giving you the problem?

i have about 10 files that I am unable to delete. They are are all "read-only" files and i am unable to change uncheck them.
They are all .JPEG's. They are stored in a sub-folder from a program in which i have already uninstalled. I cant believe that by uninstalling this program the files were not removed. i tried to edit the registry but again was unsuccessful. this is my machine so i have full priveledges to delete whatever i choose.

Logged on as an administrator, go into security setting of the subfolder (you're using NTFS format?) and change ownership of the folder to yourself. Then you should be able to delete the files.
