I installed NS 7.2 last month and forgot to update Java. I currently use 1.40_01 which I know is vulnerable. I have gone to java.com and java.sun.com. The pages are confusing and I have no idea what version to use. I have Windows 98 SE and am a casual user. I have seen posts saying use 5.0 version and others say 1.4.2_. I need to update as whenever I go to a web page using NS 7.2 recently that uses a java application it either takes forever to open, or freezes up, brings up the blue screen of death or makes my whole desktop go black. Thanks for any help.

    Auntpolly,

I run Windows 98SE, and use Java 5.0, or also called 1.5.0. There is also a Ver. 1.4.2_07, which is not vulnerable. Either one will be fine.

    Download JRE 5.0 Update 2

I recommend the Offline Installation File

    J2SE v 1.4.2_07 JRE
