Today my browser has been hijacked to start up with "here4search.com "

I ran Ad-aware straight away, but it hasn't helped at all. I downloaded, updated and ran Spybot, but again it hasn't worked.

I have just downloaded hijackThis, so can provide a log if need be. Can anyone help me with this please?

We aren't going to cure this with a single pass but the below will certainly help. Based on seeing some that should have been found and removed with Ad-aware or Spybot, I'm guessing that the apps are partly or completely disabled by some of the baddies so after getting rid of this trash, try updating them and running again.

I'm likewise a little nervous about your antivirus - it could be damaged as well so run an online AV scan after the below cleaning.

Items with no left-margin notation are simply bad stuff that needs to go away. Others have additional markings that mean
    ** = delete file
**%% = add/remove programs and uninstall if you find it. Otherwise delete the file/folder
    ## = legit but unneeded sludge

Why don't you have any service packs loaded? I strongly recommend SP2 after you get the PC cleaned up.

Before you start, download LSPFix. Don't run it but keep it in case some of these removals make it impossible for you to get to the internet. In that case, run LSPFix and you should be back in business.

Print a copy of this page before you start as well.

With all windows closed (including windows explorer and browser) run another HJT scan and mark all the below for removal (unless you like sludge in your PC and in that case, keep the ## items running at every startup).

Click on start, on run, put cleanmgr.exe in the line and click OK. Let it find what it will then let it remove all it finds. Note that if you don't run this utility often, it could take over 2 hours for it to complete the cleaning but it will.

Disable System Restore, reboot, update and run Ad-aware, Spybot, and an online AV scan. Delete all trash they find. Then turn System Restore back on.

Scan with HJT again to create a log file and post it.

    Thanks

About an hour ago I got stuffed with opensite.exe, did a quick search on Google which brought me here... opensite.exe now gone...

Just to say thanks and that your efforts were not wasted.

    Regards,

    Chris :)
