Hi, this will be my 2nd topic. I installed Stardock on my sis's laptop since it's a media center 2005. I made it look like vista with matching side bar. I, then, reliase that the Stardock object dock application is causing some time when starting my sis's laptop. It's hard to un-install it and I manually remove it.

but my sis's laptop is taking 5 minutes to load. we have to wait until Yahoo! messenger to show then it's back to operation.

I hate to do system restore as I will have to re-install 10 application.

how can i make it load by the time windows shows up? will it be on the registry?

I already did msconfig. Is there a cmd to make xp do 30 seconds to load up instead of 2-5 minutes?

    yours truly,
    Chris from the Philippines

I don't know Stardock. If there is an uninstaller in Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs, or if you go to Start -> All Programs and Look in the Stardock listing use that. I don't know what you mean by "manually remove it ". If you have trouble using the program's "Uninstaller ", try installing it again, then boot into Safe Mode and try running the uninstaller there (Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs, or if you go to Start -> All Programs and Look in the Stardock listing). Sometimes, when you run the installation program, there will be an uninstaller for it as well.

Look at the website for the Stardock program, check their information (FAQ's?).

stardock is an application that will make your XP (vista) look like an apple desktop with those gadgets tray just below your desktop (above the task bar)

i already removed the application by force-deletion (even in the registry entry) since it has no un-install (the control panel un-install option doesnt work)

i wish there's a command that will set the time of loading for windows to start up (ie. make xp to start up within 30 seconds like it used to be or have a registry cleaner)

i think I havent deleted it totally even if there's such an un-install option.

other programs running are Norton 360, Yahoo Messenger, Norton Ghost 10 (something), laptop hotkeys, spysweeper.

before, it was fast until i installed that thing. doing system restore will fix it but I also installed an application and it makes the system to go slow at start. now, i dont know where to restore at.

i just wish this will be fixed. thank you for your time reading this. I also tried looking at their website and found no luck.

When you boot into Safe Mode (starting tapping the F8 key during the first startup screens), you will find an option to run a System Restore, but I suggest you try the method I have suggested first.

I only use a "manual" method of uninstalling if and when I have a full set of instructions to follow. The system can be crippled by deleting files or the wrong registry keys. If you decide to "delete" a program yourself, don't wonder why the system won't work correctly any more.

the system was also fine 'cept it was slow at loading at start up. thanks again

    ---

since this is a start up problem, and I have to wait for my sis to come home from the university, on my dad's 2002 asus L4000H laptop, it's also slow on start up, will upgrading the ram from 256MB able to fix it? I dont know what happen but it's also slow to start up. Im still thinking what programs i installed.

also, my sis's laptop's ram is 512MB. does upgrading will help the slow start up? if she got the money, I'll upgrade it 1GB or 2GB. (it's a 2006 model)

sorry for double posting but i can seem to delete my previous post.

My sis's laptop was ok. Thank you for your help. It really help a lot. She said it's back to normal. Un-installing it really is the solution with your help.

That's good to hear, thanks for letting us know.

Double post means to start two separate threads about the same subject in different forums. Posting one reply after another in the same thread is not double posting.

256MB of RAM is too small for Windows XP...unless you have minimal startup programs. Try using Startup CPL:
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/Startup_CPL_d619.html

512MB is OK, if the number of startup/background programs is kept low and the user closes programs that are no longer being used.

I prefer to disable startup programs within their own options settings (usually in the Tools -> Options menu), rather than "blocking" them. For example, if you only use Windows Messenger occasionally, you can stop it from running at startup in the settings, then run it by going to Start -> All Programs and selecting it there when you need it.
