I have an older pc that originally came with Win98SE. I have installed Win XP Pro since then. When I installed Win XP I changed my file format from FAT-32 to NTFS. Now, I want to remove Win XP and install Win 98SE. There are files I need to save and put into Win 98. I am going to save these by burning to disc. My question is how do I change the file format from NTFS to FAT-32.

The reason I am changing is that I have lag issues when using. My pc has a Celeron 500 MHz processor. I know updating my board and processor would be the ideal fix, but at this time, it is not possible.
    Any help will be appreciated.

You don’t need to convert anything. Win98 will read the files off the CD just fine.

You should be able to get XP running better if you disable all the fluff and turn off unnecessary services/components. Have you tried this?

Start with turning off System Restore.
Then right click on My Computer and go Properties>Advanced>Performance-Settings and in the Visual Effects window remove the ticks from just about everything.

Other things to do are use Classic appearance and start menu. Don’t have any wallpaper and definitely don’t use active desktop.

There are also many services you can probably disable.
Do you have a lot of apps running and starting with Windows?

No there is only nortons security running. I do shut down all the other programs using msconfig when I first install and then going into cntl alt del to check whats running and take off what processes I don't need.

I don't run windows desktop. I run aston which is an alternative desktop program that uses less memory then windows desktop.

I will try your other suggestions too.

How much memory do you have? XP is even more sensitive to that than to raw processor speed.

You really need at least 512Mb and 1Gb is even better.

98 SE was a great OS but continued support (especially security updates) is an issue now and will only get worse. XP /w SP2 is going to be a lot safer to run if you ever get on the internet or share a local network with other PCs that get on the internet.
