Hi, everyone! I need help badly with windows media player. I am trying to play a .avi type file using windows media player 7.1 and it always comes up with an error message:

The appropriate codec is not installed on your computer
    Error ID = 0x80040200, Remedy ID = 0x00000000

I downloaded the 734kb codec package from the official site, but it didn't work.

Can someone please help me with this problem, give me the codec I need or tell me what I can do. I will be eternally grateful.

You may need the DIVX 4 or 5 download, which I believe is not MS property but works with WMP 7. Do a search at your favorite search engine (Lycos.com) for DIVX and download the 4 version first.

It might have been a bad download. The codec package worked here. The bad downloads and installs from Micro$oft are common and quite often are caused by running virus scan software. Try the download again with your virus scanner off.
