Hello! I keep getting blue screens and sometimes I just flat reboot. I turned off the auto reboot on finding errors but sometimes it still happens mostly though I get the blue screen. I have tried following the error reports. It says most likely it's a driver and do i need to update. NO I dont need to update. I have formatted twice , updated all drivers. Only thing I have not updated is the bios. I find on Asus site there is a bios upgrade. I am wondering if this could be causing my problem. I am on an Amd athlon.. thunderbird.1.4. Allin wonder radeon 8500 ( i think..maybe 7500?). This bios update says it's for a problem with the amd processors and the all in wonder video cards. I have an ASUS A7A266 . Oh and I have 256 mb ram. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Oh yes I was having intermittent connection problems with my cable modem and they are coming to fix that as they say the ping rate is not acceptable from house to the line. Thanks!

A little background on when the problem started would be helpful. Did the OS ever work correctly for you? If so, while a BIOS update might well be an excellent idea, it is doubtful that a firmware version that worked would all of a sudden become unacceptable.

Also, the exact, complete message you get when it blue screens would be helpful.

As to the cable repair - good. Sounds like it should help internet issues but it isn't likely to have caused your other problems.

    never worked

It has always done this. I have had this os about 2 months. We updated as win 98se froze so many times it finally would not reboot. I have had all the hardware tested and they say the hardware is fine. I will get the complete message the next time. Honestly xp doesnt crash as much as 98se did. However....... This computer is about 4 to 5 months old now. Thanks I will be back lol.

    hi

Not been here other than stopping by so far. But everytime I stop by the machine is in a hard freeze. I have turned off screensavers. I did have monitor set to turn off but it still froze. I can't believe this is not hardware. Also, I have less than 2gb on a 20 gb harddrive. I have not added software or anything much at all. I do remember that once I was able to trace some errors and it keeps leading me to the video card. The technician says it tests fine! I wonder...

    Oh well!

I took my newer comp over to the mall to some excellent techs there. They said motherboard tested bad right from beginning! They really don't understand how the other tech missed it! This was after it finally went down and halted on hardware problems in the reboot. I absolutely believed I was dealing with hardware issues...guess you don't have to always believe it when someone tells you it is not! Thanks All!
