Hello I have a problem. My son was fiddling around with the computer and somehow enabled the MS DOS mode. The computer will now only recognize DOS or I can take it into the Safe Mode of WIN 98. How can I get out of DOS/ Safe Mode and back into general Windows 98? Will I have to reload Windows 98 from the recovery disk, or is there another way to solve this problem. The computer can not do anything in the safe mode. When I have tried to use the exit command in DOS to go back to Windows the screen blinks and I see a Windows 98 screen and it returns to DOS. Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.......................E Lano.

I probably don't know much more about computer than you but at least I will try to help you with this problem. Perhaps my feeble attempt to help will cause someone more knowledgeable to jump in here.
Since you are in DOS already(that is where you would be sent anyway to perform this) you need to get to a C:\ prompt. I don't know what you presently have showing on your screen but you might try to get to the C:\, you might have to type \cd and hit the enter key. If you succeed in this, then type the following( and be careful to allow for a space between the g in scanreg and the /):

C:\scanreg /restore and hit the enter key. You should be presented with a DOS window that should show the last 5 days dates, including today, choose a day that was ONE day prior to the date you FIRST noticed the problem. After everything is done, type EXIT and hit enter key and you should be--let's hope back at windows. Word of caution---just be careful while you do this work. Good luck and let us know how you made out.

In msdos you can type in WIN and hit enter and you should boot to windows. Ctrl-Alt-Del is usually much faster at it.

I would guess you lost msdos.sys on your root drive.
But it would take a clever son to remove it.
I suggest you use setup.exe from the Win98 install folder to
    correct your installation.
    regards
