    I have a trojan called, proxy 7V.

AVG cannot heal or remove it, and a google search finds nothing on it.

Your help would be greatly appreciated. any ideas?

    Ta.

Ok, did the online scan, but it said i had no infected files.

However, AVG still says i have this trojan!

I have also ran Spybot, Adware and hijackthis. The log of which is shown below.

Does the fact that people have read this thread but not replied mean:

    1) No one has heard of this particular virus.

    2) No one has any idea how to get rid of it?

My PC seems unaffected as yet, am i risking further damage by using it normally and browsing the web.

Also, why is it that AVG picks up this trojan, but, when i do online scans such as Housecall or RAV, they say i have no vruses?

Posting a query on the Board does not guarantee you a reply as I am sure you know. The operation of the Board relies on members willing to share their experience with others. If your problem lies outside that experience then you will not get a response. We are all volunteers and are happy to help where we have the knowledge.
    You answered this one
Not strictly true - a search for proxy 7 brings up one relevant hit, which turns out not to be of any use.
Not amongst those who have read your post.

Please be patient - it is only 3 hours since you posted your HJT log - which looks clean to my inexperienced eye.

Try getting the latest version of Hijackthis, 1.98.1, and running it. May be something found there that 1.98.0 missed.

Interesting that the AVG site has no information on Proxy 7v when you search their database at the grisoft web site. That usually means the critter is really new.

You might want to send an email to their support staff with details of what was found and the lack of cleaning.

I went looking for this and found this "Anonym surfen proxy server serverliste free Kazaa 1 7v Cubase sx2"

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=proxy+7v&btnG=Google+Search

Its in German but Kaaza is mentioned - trouble. It may not be the problem, but if the poster is using Kaaza, that would explain it.

    Regards - Charles

    Sorry Pete,

I realise, on reflection, that my last post appeared arrogant and impatient.

You are quite right when you say posting on this board does not guarentee a reply. I regret the fact that it appeared that i thought that it did.

My expectations were quite high as i posted a virus query on this board previously and the problem was cleared up in a couple of hours, after some excellent advice from several contributors.

I was very grateful for that advice and have subsequently refered others to this board for help with similar pc problems.

I am though, still intrigued to find out if anyone out there knows why AVG says i have a virus, but the online scans pick nothing up.

    Many thanks.

I believe AVG usually gives the location of this file. I am going to take a shot and guess it is in the System Restore folder, where AVG really cannot touch it. You should clean this out. The link below explains how to do this.
Disable and Enable System Restore XP
There is the possibility of a false postive on virus detection, haven't heard of it for AVG. Do you have Heuristics enabled?
