I currently have Win 2000 Pro on my desktop and win 98 on my laptop. I'm replacing my laptop. Could someone advise me on the pros and cons of xp & win 2000?

Also, will Office 2000 Professional work on xp?

I am very grateful for your help.

Also, should I get xp professional? Is it a lot better than the home version? I network all my home computers.

    Thanks again.

XP Pro would be my first selection with XP home the second. Had 2000 at work before I retired and we had some problems.

    cheers mac :D

My 2¢ would be XP-pro first, 2000-pro second, XP-home not even in the running. 2003 might be fun but never had a chance to play with it.

I'd go with XP. Whether to get Pro or Home depends on how you're going to use the laptop. If securing your files is important (keeping other users of the laptop from viewing/opening/editing them), go with Pro.

If you'll be the only user of the laptop, Home will work just fine for you and you'll save a few bucks.

I'm the only user of my XP Home system which is networked with one 98 system that also has one user and I have never needed the extras that come with Pro.

Thanks again. The computer I'm looking at comes with xp home edition and I was wondering if I need to upgrade it right away.

    I'll wait and see.
