I have a CD Burner, and whenever I use it, it will skip one of the songs I put on the CD, and then it will waste that whole blank CD, so I have to start over. Usually there is nothing even wrong with the song! And after a lot of wasted CD's, when it finally doesn't skip a song, when I put the CD into the computer to listen to, the songs are staticky and you can hardly hear anything! This is soooo frustrating, I have wasted about 17 blank CD's on nothing!! Does anyone have any suggestions or anything? I really need this to work!! I have a Windows 98 computer, and am using an "Easy CD Creator 4" program. If anyone can help please respond or even e-mail me!!

    Thank you!

What's the source of the tracks? Downloads from Kazaa or similar application?

The sources of my tracks are usually directly from the CD itself, or extracting a track from the CD earlier and making it into .WAV format and using it later. I get a lot of the CD's I use from the library, I don't know if that makes a difference or not. Some of the tracks are from boughten CD's.

Firstly, invest in a re-writable CD (it'll save you making coasters whilst experimenting!). Here's some things to try:

    Write at a lower speed.

Go to Tools - Options - Advanced and set Audio Extraction to Low.

Copy tracks to your hard drive and then to the CD-RW rather than directly from the CD to the CD-RW.

Check that the CD-R/RW drive is properly connected.

Don't use other programs (including your virus scanner) whilst either ripping or burning.

    Switch off your screensaver.

    Defragment your hard drive.

Try playing one of the CD's which you have created in something other than your PC - how does it sound?

If the above doesn't help you find a resoltion, post back with some system specs (including details of how the CD-R/RW drive is connected).

Thank you for your help! However, all of these suggestions I have tried.... but yeah, my CD's work in every CD player I own except for my computer! I know it's not that big of a deal, but now I'm wondering if there is something wrong with my CD player in the computer? Most of the CD's I copied do work in my computer, but there are some that don't work, and I am wondering why?

    Thank you.

ok, Ummm, I am not sure how my CD-R drive is connected actually. How do I find out? And... system specs, windows 98, HP Pavilon, my CD burner drive is a "PHILIPS ", and my CD player drive is "CREATIVE 48X ". Anything specific you wanted to know?

    Whats a bargain basement soundcard?

The CD-R/RW will be hooked up as either master or slave; if you don't know, don't worry about it for now.

    How much RAM is installed?

A bargain basement soundcard is something which is cheap and nasty :) What make/model do you have?

96MB SDRAM is what it says. It also says that 32x max CD rom speed, and on my CD rom drive it says 48x. Does that make any difference or mean anything?

    HP Pavilon 6460.

    Thank u!
