I installed windows XP pro on my machine.. but my sound card doesnt work!!
My M/Board is Pcchips M930LR with SIS 7012 sound card built on-board.
Ive downloaded the latest driver for it n they should be compatible with XP. But in the middle of the installation, theres error msg, with title "UpdateDriverForPlugAndPlayDevices ".. it goes something like "same name as service name or service display name "..what does that mean?
Ive checked my services under "Administrative Tools" but theres no such thing as "UpdateDriverForPlugAndPlayDevices "..

    Pls Help! Thanx

but my sound card doesnt work!!

Is that refering to a plugin card or the onboard ( built in ) audio ?

Is the onboard audio enabled or disabled in the BIOS. If you have a plugin card it needs to be disabled.

XP should have default drivers for both that will at least get you up and running. Mine did. I went with a plugin card to start. Then pulled it out and re-enabled onboard and XP took over nicely.

But I do not think you can have both enabled at the same time.

Have you loaded the mobo drivers?

Have you looked for a BIOS update?

    0. Uninstall SiS via add-remove programs.
0.a. Delete all files in windows Temp directories:
    Docs & Settings\User\Local Settings\Temp
    Drive:\Windows\Temp
    1. Use device manager to uninstall the onboard sound device from your system.
    2. Go to Services and make sure that Plug+Play Support is set to automatic.
    3. Reboot system and let windows detect the onboard sound and install the correct xp drivers for it.

If windows cannot install the devive and drivers, then likely that the onboard sound chip is not supported in windows xp, in which case you should use the bios to disable the onboard sound and use a newer pci sound card that xp supports.

note: Plug+Play should be set to automatic and Universal Plug+Play should be set to disabled. They are not the same thing.

From what I've read using Google, the SIS 7012 chipset is supported by XP on newer motherboards and P4 processors. Not much there re older systems.
