I'm a complete beginner at home networking, but im trying it. On my new XP-loaded computer, I have two questions 1.) Why does it say my LAN cable is unplugged when it is plugged in? & 2.) when I try to access the network "Home" on which my Windows 98 computer is networked, it shows an error saying it Home is not accessible. Help me PLEASE!!

Tell us where the cables go. How many computers?

If it is computer to computer then you may have a patch cable. A patch cable will work for computer to hub/switch but not computer to computer.

So computer to computer you need a crossover cable. Walmart time.

Right cable will light the lights! Smile.
