    Dear Expert,

After re-installing winxp pro (due to Ntldr missing problem), I can't access some of my hard drivers any more, even in administrtor account. The hard drivers which can't be accessed are used to be assigned for use only by specified account or user name.

    Can anyone help!

    Thanks!

unfortunately i believe you lost them.
even using a same user name, the accounts in different installation will have different keys. If you can open it, ntfs security will be nothing.
You can try install some kind of softwares that can read ntfs in a windows 9x machine and mount the disk on. Not sure will work or not.
By the way, I am not an export, maybe real ones have better solutions. Ask more poeple.

    hi
i've met a problem like this before!!
    i couldn't access drive d
i reused it by changing the regedit!!
    first,click start--run--regedit,then find the this one:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Policies\Explorer
then in the right area, find this one:NoViewOnDrive, just delete it.then reboot your pc.
maybe u can access those drives then!!
    good luck~~

    Thanks for your replying!!
I just run regedit, but I can't find the item 'NoViewOnDrive',

There is only two line under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Policies\Explorer:

    default
    NoDriveTypeautoRun

Any further help! Thanks in advance!

    Thank you, Arie!

I tried to log in in safe mode as an administrtor account. I can't change ownership because I can't go into property (shows access is denied). The ownership was assigned in my previous win xp pro, I made re-install.

    Any further help! Thanks!

    Nihaojs,
Think about it, if you can do this in XP, any user will be able to use that way to open files locked by another user. Is it reasonable? I am sure you can not do it in XP.

Perhaps this article will yield some fruit for you. Simple file sharing can interfere with taking ownership. Try the steps in this article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=810881

In NTFS, unless you are using EFS (encrypted files), you can always recover ownership of the files and regain access. This is why one of the tenants of NT security is 'No physical access to the machine'. Getting access to unencrypted files is not a big deal if you can mount the drive.

Problem was solved! Thanks for the reply!

Af reboot, I tried again to log in in safe mode as an administrtor account. This time I could go into property of my disk drivers which access was denied. After changed ownership, I got back all my files again! Thanks for your reply, especially the tip from Arie!!
