I have a ladyfreind traveling on business that has a new laptop with MS "WORKS" version of EXCEL and needs the full blown "OFFICE" version of EXCEL to work with OFFICE xls files. She is not real swift on PC's/software and is in panic mode and is not up to importing the xls files into WORKS and then exporting them back to OFFICE, and I am unable to find a free download of an old (or any) OFFICE EXCEL version, and she does not want to pay hundreds of dollars for EXCEL OFFICE 2003 (and I did not see where that could be downloaded anyway...), so I am trying to determine if I can send her an exe or something along that line -- I have it installed and also have the install disk... Can I email that to her, and even if I could, she only has a dial-up 56k connection so that would likely take way too long -- altho, she does have wirelss 802.11G capability on her laptop so could she somehow use that at a "hotspot" to speed up the process???

    Any simple, quick solutions???

So you're asking us what illegal options there are?

Not a good idea. To get Excel, she has to buy it!

These Works Suites qualify for the "Upgrade" price ($109)

Works Suite 20061, Works Suite 2004, Works Suite 2003, Works Suite 2002, Works Suite 2001, Works 2000, Works 8.0, Works 7.0, Works 6.0

Well, I was in a hurry and left out some details...

the ladyfriend in question is my wife, I personally purchased the laptop and it is for her to use when she needs it for business, so bottom line it is actually my laptop, I own it, and I own purchased copies of EXCEL, I would just prefer to avoid paying M$ another $109+ for something I already own if I can somehow just send it to her.

Keywester, Arie's reaction to your initial post was somewhat similar to mine. I don't think his response was heavy handed in light of the public visibility of this forum, his position as administrator of the forum, and the language of the End User License Agreement that's in most Microsoft products. This is what is included in my copy of Excel 97:

    · "Applications Software. You may install and use one copy of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, or any prior version for the same operating system, on a single computer. The primary user of the computer on which the SOFTWARE PRODUCT is installed may make a second copy for his or her exclusive use on a portable computer. "

So, legally, no one other than you, even your wife, could use the Excel program on your laptop. I realize this is a mighty fine line in your case and wouldn't excite the computer cops and, I, myself, have done my share of questionable practices in this area - but I'm learning. My wife uses my laptop and doesn't know how to use Excel - yet. But if she learns, no doubt she will use it on my laptop so I will be in exactly your same position. Just my thoughts.
