Greetings... I try clicking on Help and Support at times for that reason and here's what I get ~ A popup that says: Help and Support Error. "Windows cannot open Help and Support because a system service is not running. To fix this problem, start the service named Help and Support" My problem is when going to Services, and scrolling down through the long list, there is no listing for "Help and Support ". Anyone know where I can activate this XP services program. Thanks a bunch.

    Try this.
    - click on start, on run, key in cmd and OK.
    - from the command prompt, key in net start helpsvc and press ENTER.

After you try manually starting it, close the cmd window and then click on start, on run, key in services.msc and OK. Look down the list for something named Help and Support. If it is present (and it should be) right-click, go to properties, and make sure the startup type is set to automatic.

    Help and support

Thanks Newt. It's a No-Go. On the first item, running 'cmd', all I get is "The serice name is invalid. It also says "More help is available by typing Net Helpmsg 2185. I tried that and nothing appears. ON the second part, using services.msc, there is no Help and Support listed. The only thing starting with an "H" is HTTP SSL and Human Interface Device Access.

Newt, I tried again with the helpmsg 2185. I now get this response. "You tried to start a service that is not configured on this system. Check the spelling of the service name or check the configuration information for the service using the Services option from Server Manager." (I am running SP2 on here). I'm not sure if this is in response to Help and Support or the Helpmsg 2185.

Hi Pete. Help and Support is now working. A Regcleaner program I use must have removed that item. My thanks to both you and Newt...I appreciate it. Cbuck
