I consider myself an intermediate computer user. I am in the "fast becoming a fossil" age group and computer literate ( that is if my memory doesn't fail me at the moment). My first contact with the computer world was with a friends 8088 somewhere around 1985 or 6, and playing winter games and summer games. My friend showed me how to build a little program of a moving stick figure in basic. That was the extent of my programming lessons. Not much was doing until 1992 when we started using the various bulletin boards and game servers that were popping up. Most seemed to be "computer geeks" that funded the projects themselves and ran them out of their homes. The others were Government, colleges and libraries, etc. Our favorite was this bulletin board "Midnight Madness" It had a chat room and a galaxy game. It was so popular you had to find certain time slots to log on because the servers the web master had couldn't keep up. I was "Quicksandy" then. A couple years went by and my computer experience began to die out. 1997 I got a job that included computer skills. Needless to say, I fudged it a little to get the job and learned it by trial and error on my own when I got there. Fortunately I now had a desktop with tower at home to help me learn. I have learned alot since those days; gone through a variety of systems and software. I been virused, trojaned, hijacked, system freezed, mysterious missing dll's, etc. all the way to the Blue Screen of Death and total black screen with nothing, not even a cursor. I've found that all of these things can have 100's of different answers, different for each time they happen due to what system and what other circumstances particular to that error there were. That's why I'm here. It takes a lot of knowledge and time to solve many of the problems. I am grateful that these people have decided to volunteer their time and intelligence for our benefit. Cudos to the admin and contributing members. I presently have an HP Pavilion zv5610V laptop and an Acer AspireOne netbook. I have a Waycom drawing pad and I do graphics. Drawing, playing games and writing stories and poems are what I like doing best. Other than that, I do gardening, fishing and a little traveling. I am married to that friend that first introduced me to computers. Now he's been asking my advice occassionally. How things change! I look forward to a productive relationship in windowsbbs.
