Hello all.I ve recently build a new system with GIGABYTE EP45-DQ6 mb.CPU is E8400 3GB ram Corsair 800mhz 5-5-5-12 timing and 2 SATA II HDDs.The problem is that my HD led indicator is always on for some reason. There is no spyware ad aware virus on my pc i checked many times. After downloading HardDriveIndicator can be found here (http://optionalreaction.com/software/hdi/) it shows that my HDDs are ok no continuous working but the Tower LED is always on  can someone help me out?I tried reversing the HD LED pin on the motherboard but it wouldnt function at all, so i guess that its properly connected. Thanks for your time.

Sounds like you have the PWR LED and the HD LED switched. If that is the case, what you think is the PWR LED would blink as the HD works.....

If you are certain that the connectors are on the correct pins, check the connections for the drives, pull out and reseat them.

If you have IDE (PATA) drives, check their jumper settings. Try Master and Slave settings if they are set CS (Cable Select).

No IDE drives just 2 SATAII.The fact is that when in bios the HD LED is off.As soon as Windows screen appears and starts to load the HD LED remains on till next shut down.I ve reseated the connectors even changed SATA port on the mb but still no effect:confused:

Although dated, read this. Note the references and follow any links regarding Intel chipsets. I'm not sure this is going to lead you to an answer but if you are 100% sure that your HDD LED pinouts are correct, your options to achieve functionality are going to require a different method or direct connection to the drive itself. If you're lucky, your system drive may have pinouts for an LED indicator.

I have seen failing HDD's and bad PSU's cause constant HDD LED activity but I'm going to assume that your problem is unrelated to either of those possibilities.

    ;)

edit: Note, although its not very likely, I have seen manuals that mis-labeled pinouts so it might behoove you to be a skeptic and investigate this possibility too.

more editing: I would also like to be able to rule out any real time scanning or indexing going on before we term this a "hardware problem ". Are you running any indexing or scanning software that may be impacting this? And, if you're not sure - thats OK too, but please let us know. Lastly, I admire your thoroughness.

Ok now this is getting too comfusing for me.The same system configuration i had when using my old motherboard and old processor.I just changed my Athlon 6000 to e8400 and motherboard so PSU failure is out of the question cause of previous setup it worked just fine. Also i dont have any RAID array drives but what now really confused me is that my motherboard manual states that there are 10 SATA ports out of which 6 are for ICH10R controller and 4 that are controlled by GIGABYTE SATA2/SIL5723.I is seems bath both can control SATA 3GB/s standart and SATA1.5GB compatible.I tried experimenting and changing my boot drive into the GIGABYTE controlled ports but it was not shown in the bios :| so i gess they must stick to ICH10R controller. Both my hard drives are 3.5HDD Serial ATA II 300

but what is really comfusing is the fact that the LED remains on as soon as windows logo screen appears on startup. As i stated in my 1st post HDD monitoring software shows no continuous HDD activity

I hope I didn't imply PSU failure - I said I have seen this and HDD failure as causes of like behavior but I also ruled that out in your case. Again, I reference my first post.
And, don't let the references to RAID early in the thread confuse you.

As to the Silicon Image controller - drives on that won't show up unless you loaded the drivers for that controller at the F6 prompt during installation and have enabled it in the BIOS.

    ;)
