My pc will not boot! :( It says invalid system disc when booting.
Tried HD in another system and same error. so I installed a new unformated 40 gig hd as master, removing the old hd.
set bios to boot floppy and booted with Maxtor. Maxtor formatted and partioned the HD. During this proccess it asked for a bootable floppy, it then said no operating system on it. So i took the option to format and partition without operating system. Then tried to install win/Mill from cdrom after changing bios to boot cdrom/c/a. upon booting to a D prompt, I then typed setup.exe and it started. Then, stopped saying If i had HPFS or NTFS installed i would need to create an ms-dos boot partition. What does this mean? and where do I go from here? Please help!

    upinya74,

You're going to need a boot disk that has the system files for the type of Operating System you plan to install on that new drive. You will also need FDISK on the boot disk so you can remove the non dos partition and repartition with a dos format. Then format the drive. Boot disks are available for that purpose at several sites so do a Google search and take your choice based on your planned system. If your other computer has the correct system for what you intend to use on the second one, then you can make a start up disk from it to use as your boot disk.

As for the old drive not booting, you may only need to boot up to a boot disk designed for the type of system it has installed and run the SYS command. From the A:\ prompt just type SYS A: C: and press enter. Be sure you have the correct boot disk for the system. If you did it correctly, it will indicate on screen, "System Transferred ".

Post back if you need further.
