Well, that report does say it's OK so maybe not much to worry about.

Your safest bet, IMO, would be to download the diagnostic utility from the hard drive manufacturers site and see what that tells you. This utility will be dedicated to your particular drive and should therefore give a more reliable diagnosis.

idk why i didn't think of that thx mark.

    here is what SeaTools returns:
    SMART test - pass
Short Drive Self Test - pass
Long Drive Self Test - pass
    Short Generic Test - pass

    still running Long Generic Test

not too sure what all that was about but it seems drive is good, i was kind of hoping something would show up that would explain why 64 bit systems were randomly freezing

Your system details show a 32bit OS have you just upgraded to 64 bit, could it be that you have some compatability problems, possibly with some old drivers.

Whichever OS you run you must make sure the drivers for all devices are compatible with it. This is probably why things have been freezing.

You may like to consider checking your memory as well, you should be able to get diagnostics from the manufacturers site.

Running chkdsk might also be worthwhile.

Your in luck, Windows 7 has a memory tester built in.

    http://www.tomstricks.com/how-to-te...-windows-memory-diagnostic-tool-in-windows-7/

I wish you luck finding the cause of the freezes. From what I have seen it is often due to one of three things, a memory fault, a failing hard drive or a virus/malware.

I note the link to someone with the same problem but alas no difinitive solution.

I would go for the memory as the prime suspect but the fault could be elsewhere.

One final thought, have you checked your error logs, that might shine some light on the subject.

According to the instruction in that link you should get a report the next time the computer boots up.

One thing you should bear in mind is this .....
The only satisfactory way of testing RAM is to test the installed RAM in various configurations. If you have a single module swap it around the slots. If you have a pair of modules run each one singly, swapping between slots; then run them in pairs swapping between pairs of slots. If you have 2 sets of matched modules do not get them mixed up.
Difficult - by substitution is the only sure method.

just in case it wasn't clear i used win7s integrated memory test to test my RAM.

since i have 8 GBs (4 x 2gb) i guess next step is easy remove 3 and try them 1 at a time. ( i suppose here i should check the dif. modules on dif. slots)

i really have no reason to suspect my MB but since ive been having troubles with clean win installations im trying to test everything i can think off.

    and thx for your input.

Have you tried using the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisory Tool. Just to rule out Hardware incompatability. You never know there just might be that one piece of hardware that is not Win 7 compatable. Just a thought. If you tried this already please accept my appologies
