Volume seems to be sufficient. However, distortion is the main issue. Where should troubleshooting Begin? Please advise. Thanks for your time.

What is the history behind the problem?
Has it always been this way?
Does it do it with ALL types of sound files?

The first thing you could try is listening through earpieces. If the sound is clear then it's the amp/speakers, which could be a problem if you're talking about a laptop.

Also, does the distortion decrease/disappear if you reduce the volume?

Hi, Mr. Steve R. Jones. As a new desktop, March,2010, everything was fully operational. Seven days ago the sound issue started. Nothing has been changed to the PC. Have problems with all sound files.

Hi, Moglex. Earpieces are not available. Speakers are integrated with a HP 2009M LCD monitor. Distortion changes with volume.

HP have been notified. No reply to date.

    Happy birthday USA
