I have just joined the forum, but have been reading postings from other users with similar problems, for a while. I downloaded hijack this and will post the log at the end. I also have spybot, microsoft antispyware, adaware se 1.05, as well as norton internet security and can not get rid of my pop up problems from these two sites. I don't know much about computers, other than surfing the net, and was hoping I could get some help ridding myself of these pop ups, as they always shut down internet explorer when I close the pop up windows. Heres my hijack this logfile-

    Welcome to WindowsBBS ckbell13:)

Please download GetLogXP.zip. Save it to your desktop. If it saves as attachment.php, right click and rename to GetLogXP.zip You may need to enable viewing extensions for known file types to see the zip and php extensions. To do that, open My Computer and click Tools on the menu, then folder options. Click the view tab of the window that opens, uncheck the box to Hide extensions...... and click OK. Now right click the zip and extract the GetLogXP.bat file to your desktop. Double click the file to run it. It will open GetLogXP.txt and place a copy on your desktop. Please post the contents of that log.

    Check for updates to Ad-aware.

Download and install SpywareBlaster. Enable all protections, check for updates and enable them too. Then download IESpyad.exe, double click to extract (it extracts to C:\IESpyad by default), open the folder, double click the ie-ads.reg file and allow it to merge into the registry.

Copy the quote box below to a blank notepad. Make sure the formatting stays the same. Save it to your desktop as rem.reg, being sure to change the Save As Type to All Files (*.*)
Download Pocket Killbox from here: http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip

Extract the file to a folder, then open and double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. In the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste the following:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\EGDACCESS_1058.dll

Check the box to delete on reboot and click the red X to the right. Click Yes, then NO to the reboot now prompt. Copy the next filepath, paste it in the box, and repeat the above steps, this time allowing reboot.

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\tnomfwbvqu.exe

Upon restart, before anything comes up on your screen, begin repeatedly tapping F8. This should enable the selective startup menu where you can choose safe mode. Logon to your username in safe mode.

Double click the rem.reg file, allowing it to merge to the registry.
Do a search for EGDACCESS.inf and delete.
Open C:\Temp if present, select all and delete.
Open C:\Windows\Temp, select all and delete.
Open C:\Windows\Prefetch, select all and delete.
Open the control panel, then internet options and delete the temporary internet files, checking the box for offline content.

Open Ad-aware and run in full scan mode. Delete all it finds.

Open My Computer, right click Local disk C: and choose properties, then disk cleanup. Check all boxes except compress old files and click OK.

    Reboot back into Windows.

Scan your PC with RAV. If any files are infected, click the report button then copy and paste it here.

Run another HijackThis scan and post the log. Let us know if the popups have stopped.

When using Killbox, I get an error message

I followed the instructions all the way through to using killbox and when I told the program to erase the files and reboot, I get a message that says "Pending File Rename Operations Registry Data Has Been Removed By External Process" with an "OK" button to click on. Nothing happens as far as rebooting. Is this normal ?

That's the bad file fighting removal. Paste the filepaths again, this time checking the boxes to Replace on Reboot and Use Dummy, then click the red X and allow to reboot when the last filepath has been added. After rebooting, navigate to C:\Windows\system32, locate those files and delete.

    Tried Killbox again.

I tried using Killbox again, as instructed, replacing with a dummy file, and still get the same results of "Pending File Rename Operations Registry Data Has Been Removed By External Process" with the "ok" button. I also tried to delete the two files independently and reboot after each, but I get the same result.

Download the DelZipzap.zip file attached to this post. Save it to your desktop. If it saves as attachment.php, right click and rename to DelZipzap.zip You may need to enable viewing extensions for known file types to see the zip and php extensions. To do that, open My Computer and click Tools on the menu, then folder options. Click the view tab of the window that opens, uncheck the box to Hide extensions...... and click OK. Now right click the zip and extract the DelZipzap.bat file to your desktop. Note to others.....the attachment was written specifically for this machine. Please do not use if you have zipzap popups too. Start your own thread and someone will gladly assist you.

Reboot to safe mode and double click the DelZipzap.bat file to run it.
Then proceed with the rest of the cleanup as previously instructed, starting with double clicking the rem.reg file.

    im having the same problem

man im having the exact same scenario as you are so dont feel alone. ive followed the steps exactly as you have and it keeps coming back anyway. ive even found numerous posts on many sites about this perticular problem and noone seems to be getting anywhere. i get the same message from killbox as you have on your last post. ive spent 3 days trying to get this off my comp already. downloaded a dozen programs recommended by different people and no help found yet.
im not sure if this will help the pros figure anything out but ive noticed after i cleanse my system with all the programs ive used and manually remove them in safe mode i notice the next time i log on i get a different pop up the first few times rather than the zipzappromos varios popups. the pop up is titled as
security-updater.com and a bunch of other garble a mile long after it. and its always a blank page and never loads any pics or text. i assume its the program updating its security against us removing it.
anyway i just wanted to let you know its not just you, this seems to be a major problem across the net. ive even found posts in other languages from many countries with the same problem. zipzappromos apparantly translates the same in any language. LOL
if i get anywhere ill let you know and please do the same for me thanks ROB B email:byrdman313@aol.com

Welcome to WindowsBBS byrdman313, and thanks for the input. :)

Actually, this is one of the first times I've again tried using the Killbox on these files. I had been having good results with batch files I was writing, but was concerned with the possibility of newer variants and not actually getting the files removed anymore, so thought I'd try Killboxing them instead. Looks like I may end up writing some more batch files, and writing those differently than I was.

If you'd like to see if we can help, please start a new thread here, with a fresh HijackThis log, and a log from GetLogXP.zip (assuming you're running XP). Save it to your desktop. If it saves as attachment.php, right click and rename to GetLogXP.zip. Extract the GetLogXP.bat file to your desktop. Double click the file to run it. It will open GetLogXP.txt and place a copy on your desktop.

Byrdman I just wanted to let you know that I have been getting the same exact blank "security updater" pop up myself. Must have something to do with the ZipZap ****. I will download the DelZipzap.zip to my home computer tonight and I'll post the results. Thanks for everyones help, by the way.

No more popups.........that's great news! :)

Right click the desktop and choose new>folder. Move HijackThis.exe to the folder. Open, scan again and place a check next to the following entries, close all other windows and click fix.

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = about:blank
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tnomfwbvqu] c:\windows\system32\tnomfwbvqu.exe -start
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Instant Access] rundll32.exe EGDACCESS_1058.dll,InstantAccess
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

You should probably clear out the old System Restore points too. Right click My Computer and select properties. Click the System Restore tab and check the box to turn off SR. Click OK. Reboot your computer and turn SR back on by unchecking the box. Then post one more new HijackThis log.

Thanks Newt ;) I was in a bit of a rush and forgot about it by the time I posted.

ckbell13, before doing the system restore bit, delete that infected file and empty the recycle bin.

That's great! :) Your HijackThis log appears clean also. You should probably clear your System Restore points to remove those bad files that most likely have been backed up. Sure wouldn't want to restore one of them at some point. ;) Right click on My Computer and select properties, then the System Restore tab. Check the box to turn it off and click OK. Reboot and uncheck the box to turn it back on. A new restore point should be created, but make sure. Click Start>All programs>Accessories>System tools>System Restore, then click create a restore point and next. Name it 'After cleanup' or whatever, then click create.

You're quite welcome. I'm happy to have helped! :)
