I'm in one forum that keeps loging me out every 5 min. or so. They just moved to a new server recently - but it seems like others are not having this problem. Would there be an internet setting under tools to remedy this?
    I have IE 6.0 w/ XP Pro and sp2.
    Thanks,
    Charlie

    Hi Charlie!

I too have problems with a forum after it was moved to a different server. I have checked a box (as always) to remain logged in when I return but it is now ignored. I get kicked out randomly, anything between a few hours and a day or two.

I have found no solution but have noticed that the cookie does not get updated (time stamp) when I revisit but I don't know if it got updated on the previous server.

I refuse to change any settings or being taken on a wild goose chase. It can not be my computer that is the culprit ... ... it worked before, right?

It could be a problem with the sites cookies. I'd try deleting all cookies that are related to the site and then see if you stay logged on.

    Hi Zander!

In my case, I delete all cookies once a month, after the updates have been installed, prior to creating a new Ghost Image. It doesn't help.

Well... it's weird... besides cookies I'd delete all TIF files too... other then that I wouldn't know...

The only other thing I can think of (I've ran into it myself) is if you're a member of more than one forum that's hosted on the same site. I'm a member of a couple forums that both originate from the same site. If I log into one forum, I stay logged in as long as I don't visit the other one. If however, I visit the other one, the next time I visit the previous one I'll have to log in. And, it works the other way around too. I never had a problem with the one site until I became a member of the other forum. I've just ignored it and assumed it was due to the inner workings of the web site they originate from.

I've also had this happen when I belonged to a forum at a given web site and then just visited another forum hosted by the same site even though I wasn't a member of it. In fact, the one I'm thinking of would cause problems with the shortcut in my favorites for the one that I was a member of. If I visited any forum hosted on that site and then clicked on the favorite that should take me to the forum I was a member of it would just take me to the one that I had just visited. Are you confused now? :D Closing and reopening the browser would set things straight again. Go figure. :)

    Arie,
during my monthly cleanup, I clear not only the cookies but also the TIFs and other temp files. After that, I defragment prior to creating a fresh Ghost Image.

I have checked a few other cookies from other forums. They get updated when revisiting but not the one from the problematic forum.

    Zander,
it seems like Gremlins are running the show ... :D ... !

Very sorry to be away so long. I had a touch of flu. Also was trying to figure what happened and the extent of damage – and I was working on restoring things.

Apparently a big mess occurred when I ran an hp diagnostic test of my hard drive.
This pop-up appeared while I had a few sites open. All open screens turned to black and I shut it down with the off button, fearing the worse. I noticed windows running a bit smoother – but all seemed OK.
Then I opened my Outlook Express to visit my subscribed newsgroups and they were all gone. All the settings were gone as were all the 1-2 GB of downloaded posts. I had several multi-post downloads in several newsgroups underway that I lost track of my progress, as well as the fact that many of the downloads I had “cached” did not download again. So I had to re-enter my account settings and start over there.
Then I noticed a few movie players “welcoming” me and asking for registration info all over again. Then a few sites and forums that I visit on a regular basic were asking for my password, when I had it set to remember passwords and log me in automatically. One, in fact, is logging me out several times a session – even though I am actively participating there. Next I noticed some sites are very slow to open – or just won’t open at all. On is Imageshack – and I even have an account there. It doesn’t matter if I try to log in through the main page, or try to open a photo hosted there – or if I use my activation link that they emailed to me. I suspect it has to do with cookies – but I don’t want to delete all cookies for just a couple sites. I wondered if they deleted my account – but I can’t even get on their site home page. Just curious if they banned me – so I tried to run with a proxy in case they are blocking me. But I never use a proxy and the couple proxy urls I found wouldn’t access the internet. So I doing something wrong – or are the proxies dead?
Maybe that’s a different discussion – but I would like to use a proxy as I think my computer is being accessed – and I’m annoyed by photos of trashy looking women from my neighborhood who want a date. I’m supposed to have a Windows XP firewall operating – but I’m allowing some advertising pop-ups as a condition to using a free FTP site. I know it’s dumb – but WinMX seems closed, and they were supposed to be the one without spyware or maleware.
So it looks like I might have several different questions here. And in the meantime – I’m not sure I finished the HD analysis. I’ll try to run an online AV scan – like BitDefender and get back.
In the meantime – maybe someone can comment.

    Thanks,
    Charlie
