Hope I have the right forum.

I have been using Adobe Deluxe Business Edition 1.0 for years now because of the ease and better cloning ability this old software has. It’s just simpler and quicker to use on photos than "˜Elements’ and "˜Photoshop’ 5.5. The new AdobePhoto Album does not have this feature, but I am told Photoshop 7 has a 'healer' which is like ADBE's good-old cloning feature.

Recently, when I click a menu title or in a menu, I get the box...…. "could not complete your request because of a program error "……..

Trying again, I am then able to click open or go where I should have been the first time. I have installed, un-installed, re-installed this software.
    Still have the problem.
    Any suggestions??

    Thanks
    Steve TS

This kind of thing can be very difficult to track down unless someone, hopefully, had the same error and tracked it down.

    What OS?

If I understand your post correctly, you are using Adobe photodeluxe business ed. version1.0. [Not 100% sure cause you mention two others but are not real clear in whether you have updated to these.]

    If above holds true:
Seems to be one of those things that happens from time to time when using an older version of an application. Adobes number 1 solution is to do just as you have done, which is click okay on the error and continue on with what you wish to do.

Solutions 2 and 3 suggest un-installing outlook or outlook express. Why?, I dunno' they offer no further explanation on how the error and these apps are associated.

Solution 4 suggests you update to a version higher [version 4 is specifically mentioned] that is compatible with win9x or higher.

While another link offers some "Could-be's" for win95 they also look worth checking out for win98 problem: [I'm referring to a possible printer related issue]

    Using original Windows 98

Sorry about mentioning the other software. Only meant to say I like keeping and using the old Abode Business Deluxe 1.0 as compared to the new stuff which has too much garbage; a.k.a. elaborate and worthless features I will never use or even understand.

I received the Adobe Bus. Del. 1.0 in 1999 when I purchased the scanner. It came along with HP's ScanJet software.

I only now have Adobe Elements 2.0 installed, and removed Photoshop. Not to further confuse, but I have even tired with this Elements 2.0 software un-installed also. There still pops up that box in Adobe Bus. Del, Edition saying "could not complete your request due to a program error." Thanks for informing what Abobe recommends. I didn't know that even after many visits to their site.

Adobe told me on the phone to just use the Elements and trash the older software which use to function fine with win98.

It’s my understanding Adobe cut off support, and keeps urging me to use only Elements 2.0, and wait until a "˜tryout’ of their new Photo Album this April. The newer Elements and recent Photo Album software lack a feature the older Adobe Deluxe Edition had.

    Thanks

Since you already tried reinstalling, the problem probably lies in some change in Windows.

You could try uninstalling it, running a registry cleaner to be sure all entries are removed, deleting any folders that remain from the program in Program Files, cleaning out the temp directory in case any setup files remain there, and reinstalling.

Or, more time-consuming, run the system file checker and see if any files need to be restored for Windows.

Has this happened after an upgrade of Windows or Outlook or IE/Outlook Express? Or has it been a long standing problem. I noticed you stated this as happening recently, while Adobe seems to expect this to be a common and expected behavior.

I got the feeling this just plain boiled done to shared file version compatibility. Older Adobe files are not compatible with newer windows or outlook[EX]. I don't think even version 2's are expected to help as Adobe refers to a problem, such as this, being taken care in version 3 or newer.

Let me look around and see if someone has found a work around that adobe just doesn't want to share......

In the mean time you may wish to have a look into possible Printer related issue and give Abraxas' suggestion ago.

Or just do as you have been and click thru the error and continue with what you were doing.
