I went into a machine and used the hardware wizard. I put a dot in the radio button for Install The Hardware That I manually select from a list and I clicked next. From the Common Hardware Types list I chose a device and clicked next(show all devices was checked), but, there were no entries in the master list of available drivers. Is there a way to correct this problem? Never seen this one before.

If you have tried other hardware types (try monitors) and the list appears, I would suspect that it does not have a database listing for that type of hardware. It would be expected that you install the drivers or will have the .inf file that will add the hardware (and any other related hardware) to the database when the .inf file is installed.

There may not be any "signed" drivers for that hardware. In Device Manager, go to the View menu and click Show Hidden Devices. See if a full list appears then.
