HI i am new here but i really need your help

my laptop is advent 7105 and after its last update from windows update its not working properly
it starts up normal but theres now no sound or my network card or even the ethernet.
I have had no errors unless i try to connect to the internet get blank pages
in media player its says i dont have a sound card
if i got into device manager there are no red x or yellow warning logos
if i go to sytem info it says
cannot access the windows managment instrumentation this may have been moved or missing

i made a recovery dvd the day i bought it and have now rstored so theres nothng actually missing
the problem seems to be in the actuall detection of my hardware

i thought the usb would be down but it works so i assume its built into the mobo on a laptop

i have years of experience messing with my pc but not ever with a laptop
i really ant to avoid formatting

can anyone help me out please
i am also available on msn with removed by moderator for your security

    Welcome to the forum.

Your recovery dvd has an alternative according to this site. Unless you have followed your manual, suggest you try the method mentioned there.

Also, the Realtek AC'97 audio "sound card" is most likely a chip on the motherboard, and if it no longer works, there's not much you can do at home. Would first try removing it in device manager and rebooting to see if it's re-installed.

If all fails, and the laptop is not too old, you might contact the manufacturer to see if the hardware, most likely the motherboard, warrants replacement, i.e., if the cost is not excessive.
