I have a strange problem with my mouse dieing under XP. The only way I can fix it is to use the keyboard to reboot.

I have a 2-way KVM switch for an ME machine and the XP machine. Occasionally (not every time) when I switch back to XP the mouse is frozen. So I have 2 questions:

    1) Is there a way to get XP to reset the mouse other then rebooting?

    2) If anyone has experienced a similar problem is this a hardware issue or a problem with XP (my ME machine is fine).

    Thanks.

Your KVM switch may not work well with XP. I'd check their web site and see if you can find out.

In case of your first question:

Go to device manager, click the plus sign beside Mouse and other pointing devices, select your mouse and select scan hardware from the shortcut menu or your toolbar.

Thanks but there is no reference to any operating systems. It is entirely hardware, independent of what it is connected to.

I've used 4 different brands & types of KVM switches over the last few years - had the same problem you're experiencing with different versions of Windows, all of them would drop the mouse occasionally.

The solution I use - a seperate mouse for each computer.
